ARTIST BIOGRAPHY:

A wanderer and gather who nurtures the life and cycle of exhausted items.

Chrissy is a Mount Gambier based artist who works and exhibits in and around the Limestone Coast. Her skills as a basket maker have continued to evolve over the past fifteen years as she explores and discovers different materials and stories with an endeavour to create her sometimes quirky artworks.

Here in the Limestone Coast, resources for her artwork are abundant. Chrissy is a keen gatherer of scrapped materials from our disposable economy, which help her bring to light sometimes, stories of sadness based on today’s way of life.

Chrissy’s collection of pieces in this exhibition are focused on materials gathered from our coastline and local farms. She places a strong focus on the reuse of baling twine from local farms, electrical wires from reuse markets and ghost ropes gathered from Limestone Coast beaches.

Lost and forgotten ropes make their way from working hard on fishing vessels, being tossed and turned in the ocean waves to finally emerge all beaten and weathered with character to be gathered and formed into artworks both functional and beautiful. Twines of all colours rest in the trash or wait on a burning pile. They are so beautiful and durable ready to be remade again. Wires of strength and beauty are so often discarded with appliances and rewiring projects. Chrissy just loves to use these again too.

She spies something discarded and it has a purpose again.
